Curricular Practical Training (CPT) can be used for completing an internship. You CANNOT begin your internship without approval so apply as soon as you receive an offer letter from your potential internship site. If your internship is year long you WILL need to apply twice. It does not carry over.

Submit your degree plan showing where your internship is a requirement for your program (you can screenshot from degree works; if you graduate in the spring you need to submit a SIGNED degree plan from your advisor or chair).

Secure a letter from your internship professor explaining the internship's purpose and/or how it’s essential to your thesis/dissertation
Step 5: Provide the Job Letter

Provide the job letter from your employer on official letter head. Once it is approved you will receive a new I20.
Additionally, once the semester is completed and grades are released you will need to send the international department your transcript within 2 weeks to verify completion of the course.
You will also need to obtain a SSN if you are completing a paid internship.
